Ask anyone in the city and you’ll get a different answer every time. “What’s your favourite Toronto neighbourhood?” It can be a polarizing question that can tell a lot about a person. It’s almost like asking, “what’s your sign?” for Torontonians.
As an agent here in the city, it’s hands-down one of the most common questions I get asked on the daily: “Where should I buy?”
I’m going to let you in on a little secret here. As agents, we can see the potential in almost any neighbourhood. But that doesn’t mean we can’t pick and choose our faves. Take me for example, one of my favourite Toronto neighbourhoods has to be Fort York.
I’m not joking. I could talk about it all day long. So here are my top 5 reasons to love Fort York.

Fort York and I Go Way Back
Fort York holds a special place in my heart. Not only do I love recommending it to clients, but I also put my money where my mouth is. I actually lived in Fort York for 9 years in the WaterParkCity complex! I called 231 Fort York home back in the day and I loved the amazing amenities, community vibe, and building management.
As a community, Fort York has a rich history. Home to the Fort York Historic site, it’s located just west of Downtown Toronto. The OG fort was built over 200 years ago and was destroyed in the War of 1812. Since getting rebuilt, the area has seen significant growth and has become one of the go-to neighbourhoods for stunning condo developments.
Popular among young professionals, couples, and young families, Fort York is the perfect neighbourhood if you want to live close to the action of Downtown Toronto while taking advantage of amazing greenspace and fantastic amenities.
So without further ado, let’s get into the top 5 reasons why I love Fort York for my clients:
1. The Value (Yes, You Read That Right!)
You might think that the words “Toronto condo” and “great value” are destined to never appear together, but that’s just not the case in Fort York. The number one reason I advise my clients to consider Fort York is because of its affordable prices and great value.
Unlike other neighbourhoods like Liberty Village or Cityplace, Fort York is still relatively affordable. As of May 2022, the condo prices in Fort York are around $1050 per square foot. Which, when you consider that the buildings in Fort York typically come with more spacious floorplans, it means you’re getting a better bang for your buck. Plus, it’s nice to live in a bigger space that you can potentially stay in for longer.

2. You’ll Always Get a Seat on the Streetcar
Since Fort York is the first stop after Exhibition Place, people who live here can always count on getting a good seat on the streetcar. I’m not even joking! One of the biggest complaints I get from my King West clients is that they can never find a seat on transit!
Fort York is located smack dab between two streetcar stops, giving you plenty of options if you take public transportation. Getting around the city from Fort York is easy, fast, and comfortable.
3. But You Can Drive Here Too
Is public transportation, not your thing? No problem! Fort York is also close to major roadways and it’s super easy to hop onto the highway from anywhere in the neighbourhood. If you commute by car or just use a car to get around the city, you can avoid some of the side-street congestion that other neighbourhoods have to deal with.
Fort York has easy access to Lakeshore and the Gardiner, making it easy peasy lemon squeezy to get onto any major highways. Your travel times will be spent making moves, not sitting around in traffic.
Buying a home in Toronto can seem like a daunting task in today’s market. But it doesn’t have to be! Read my blog about how to buy a home in Toronto in 2022 here.
4. Anywhere is Walking Distance, If You Have the Time
Although I just spent a bunch of time talking about the various transportation options, it needs to be said that Fort York is extremely walkable. You can get Downtown in about 20 minutes or just quickly cut across the park to enjoy the grocery stores, pubs, and cool vibes in Liberty Village.
There’s also a massive Loblaws and Shoppers Drug Mart at Bathurst and Fleet, that provides easy access to Fort York residents on foot. No matter where you want to go, you can walk there, just make sure you’re wearing the right shoes!
5. Don’t Forget About the Greenspace
Fort York is literally a heritage designated area. It’s a park first and foremost with incredible sights and historic monuments. Although Fort York residents are known for being young professionals who love being close to our urban centre, most of us are outdoorsy types at heart.
Which is perfect for living in Fort York. You can enjoy our beautiful Toronto summers with countless parks nearby. Queens Quay and the Martin Goodman Trail are also located nearby, so if you’re a cyclist, jogger or dog parent, you’ll want to check those out for sure!
